Hi we know all that MSN new site has live now i.e live.com but the same thing I found we lost some ranking here after live. I read some where that "Live Does Not Pass Referral" but still confuse over it so can anyone have similar experience and have to notice any other things in new site for MSN and what it means that "not pass referral". Thanks in advance.
There is a lot of confusion here about the new MSN live setup. I noticed traffic to one client site, totally lost ALL MSN traffic overnight 2 weeks yesterday in fact. I was concerned, but overall traffic conversions and earnings were NOT down, neither were page impressions etc, so I assumed it was a reporting thing. I pulled down the raw server logs, and investigated them, and, right enough, there was all this traffic coming from MSN Live. So what is meant by 'not passing referral' is that they are not being identified bit the stats packages, as referring traffic to a site (Even though they ARE referring). My Advice is to look at traffic, overall, manually check the raw logs (using something like sawmill, which is fantastic but expensive), check your MSN rankings as a belt n bracer exercise. But don't worry about it too much if everything tells you nothing has changed. The way referrals are reported are not going to have any direct relation to rankings.
How the referrals are reported (e.g. search.msn.com vs. search.live.com) is going to depend upon whether the user has been automatically forwarded from the msn.com domain to the live.com domain. From the little bit I've read about it, it looks like MS is doing a layered rollout. Here in the US they're forwarding me today. A few days ago they weren't.
This could be totally different for different users, or even for users in different parts of the country/world.
