I am using flash MX and here are the steps for generating movie file from flash:

    1. Make any animation in flash or just complete your task what you want to develope.

    2. Avoid using any movie clips in the main stage as main stage is going to be converted into movie and movie clips if exist in the main stage will going to be ignored by the flash compiler.

    3. Go in File Menu then click Publish Settings a window will open having number of check boxes in vertical series. Shortcut for this window is Ctrl+Shift+F12

    4. Click on the check box saying Quick Time (.mov). As you will check a new tab will appear in the top tabs.

    5. Click the tab and make changes in the setting as you desire.

    6. Again come back to the first tab name Formats.

    7. Press Publish button at the right side of the window.

By default movie goes in the directory where you have saved the fla file, you can also change it by unchecking the checkbox saying "Use default names" at the bottom of the window.

    Hope you can do it.

I have defined the Flash MX method but I have seen the same/little different steps in the old version with name Export in the file menu. There is no much different.
