I'm the webmaster-dome guy. I run a site on webmaster resources and SEO. I want to know something. Is an RSS feed that important ? I think it is so unreliable. I had 38 readers for my feed on 3rd of Dec. I unfortunately wasnt able to blog on 4th Dec. Now, I've only 9 readers left !!!
How did this happen ? Dont you think RSS is unreliable ? Thinking from an other point, RSS is unprofitable too. We cant show ADs in RSS. So, we are giving content for free. Why ?
Saying that because you failed to post and lost some readers makes RSS unreliable is a logical fallasy. If your readers depend on your giving them frequent updates then it would seem your the one who is unreliable.
Your right though that RSS is unprofitable in the sense that you can't place ads on it but is that all the web is about anymore, advertising? I understand the need to make revenue but I always thought of RSS as a value added service for my readers.
People subscribe to a feed to have easy access and notifications of your new content. If you don't produce new content why would they need a feed?
Or perhaps they just didnt want to read the blog anymore, they have no obligation to, It's upto you to produce content that they continue to want to read.
User do not come daily but to check new updates, this is what they need, it is not neccessary for them to visit daily but may visit in week or possible that don't like the posts, as it is a matter of fact that there are many of the sites and it is not easy to remember the name of sites in single visit.
